Your Support is Strengthening Ebola Prevention in Uganda

As Uganda responds to the threat of Ebola, your support helps protect thousands of people through GHM’s partnership with the Lutheran Church of Uganda. This support is helping expand Ebola prevention outreach to more than 165 congregations, 42 schools, and 18 health centers.

Together, we are equipping religious leaders, teachers, and healthcare workers to promote disease prevention, improve hygiene and sanitation, and distribute essential protective supplies. These efforts are strengthening community preparedness and reducing fear and stigma.

According to Rev. Akuwa James, the Director of Social Ministries of the Lutheran Church of Uganda (LCU), this outreach project has inspired pastors and local community health workers to become more actively engaged in promoting health. Many pastors report feeling empowered and energized by the initiative, and the Ministry of Health of Uganda commended the LCU for its well-organized efforts to strengthen community health outreach and services.

While Uganda is now Ebola free, prevention is the best defense. According to Rev. James, ‘the greatest achievement has been the increased confidence among church leaders to respond calmly and responsibly during public health emergencies, helping reduce fear while promoting accurate health information.’
