I first connected to GHM in 2010, but I’ve always been drawn to global mission, ever since hearing stories from a missionary to “Tanganyika” when I was a little girl. I feel privileged to be able to serve in my own way, believing that God places each of us where we are able to use the gifts we have been given.
I volunteered with another Lutheran nonprofit, Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry, for at least the last decade and am especially involved with their work in India. Bethlehem Lutheran in south Minneapolis is my church home, and I can often be found there when not at GHM, or at my cabin where time with my family has been precious to me.
I love the simplicity of the first verse of Psalm 107: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and his steadfast love endures forever.” When I was a girl, my grandfather led us in saying this verse responsively after every family dinner.
My confirmation verse from John 3:16 is still a keeper: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son …” In the end, it’s all about love.
