Welcome to the
Almost half the world lives on less than $2.50 a day. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. As global citizens and Christians who take Jesus’ call to care about and help others seriously, it is important that we seek to understand the poverty of so many of our brothers and sisters around the world. Learning statistics, however, isn’t enough. Meeting people who experience that poverty and empathizing with their stories can help. Experiencing what it is like to make the same kinds of difficult choices made by people living in poverty can also help us understand their world. The Global Poverty Experience creates an opportunity to experience in a small way, what people face in many parts of the world. We have chosen to set this experience in Africa for the sake of giving it more specific details. We believe that learning about the reality of poverty can be the introduction to making more informed choices about how we live our lives in accordance with God’s directive to share, to take care of each other and to care for the earth’s resources.
