Safe Water For All

Overview

Based on a sixty-minute Sunday School period, one may assume 20 minutes for large group activities and 40 minutes of individual class time. Written to be used for six consecutive weeks, the large group activities would include the "Mission Minutes" to keep the subject fresh in the children's minds and report progress on the offering.

A typical well in a village costs $500 to build. It is important to have some type of visual aid of the offering so that the students see a connection between their giving and a well being dug. Some simple preparation of visual aid-type materials may be necessary for the opening activity. One related scripture verse is given for each lesson. Songs with the theme of water can be used as well. (See Appendix for songs.) Each session should also include a short prayer related to the offering or theme of the day. The material in the "Mission Minutes" can be adapted to the age level of the children involved. This guide is intended to be a springboard for other ideas that you may have related to the theme of safe water.

Optional small group activities include some simple projects to connect the children to the needs of all people for safe water. They will help to reinforce the teaching given during the Mission Minutes and provide hands-on type learning.

After completing the six sessions, you may want to have a "celebration event," such as inviting a representative from GHM to receive the total offering. Or you may arrange for some of the children to present to the congregation what has been learned.
