Baby Blankets

Baby Blankets are a welcomed gift to a new mother and child, and are often requested by our partners overseas as an incentive for supervised delivery at the hospitals or health centres. The blankets can be made from cotton or acrylic yarn (no wool). Light colored baby yarn is nice but other types can be used as well. The size should be approximately 30 x 30 inches.

There are a number of ways the blankets can be done. Knitted or crocheted in one continuous piece, or in strips and squares and then sewn or crocheted together - lots of possibilities.

Assembly Instructions (click here to download brochure)

The number of stitches in a continuous piece depends on the type of yarn and tension. As a general guide: Cast on 20 stitches, knit a few rows, measure the width, divide that number into 30, and then multiple that with the number of stitches. For instance, if the 20 stitch piece is 4 inches wide, multiply 20 by 7.5 (150 stitches). Needle size depends on the type of yarn. Suggested size will usually be given on the skein wrapper.

Completed blankets can be mailed or delivered to GHM.
