Rolled Bandages

Commercial bandages are often expensive and in short supply, so rolled bandages, or "missionary bandages", are needed in many countries. Suitable materials are used bed sheets, white only, cotton or cotton blend. A great service project for youth and adults!

Assembly Instructions (click here to download brochure)

  • Pre-wash material
  • Rip into strips two-four inches wide
  • If using more than one strip: Sew strips together end to end (for a continuous roll). Bandages can also be made from just one strip the length of a standard bed sheet.
  • Assemble strips into rolls about one to two inches in diameter.
  • Insert end of bandage strip into the double wire.
  • Roll tightly and evenly and pull off loose threads.
  • Pull the wire from the center of the bandage (Hint: a couple of backward turns on the crank makes it easy to pull the wire out and avoid an uneven center in the bandage roll).
  • Secure with masking tape to keep bandages from unrolling.
  • Pack the bandages in small boxes, no bigger than about 12 x 18 inches
  • Use the least expensive surface rate when shipping to GHM.

Note: Please no knits or flannels.

Monetary Donations & Prayers are Appreciated

GHM appreciates any financial gift to defray shipping costs to the final overseas destination. Please mail financial gift(s) separately, not in the bandage boxes. And please pray for the medical staff as they dress and care for the wounds.

Linens are also welcome!

New or good, clean, used sheets, towels and other linens are always needed by the overseas hospitals and clinics.
