The HIV/AIDS Epidemic has added enormous challenges to health care worldwide. Missionaries, their health care worker colleagues, and patients' families in third world countries must provide daily care to AIDS patients who suffer from the symptoms of a devastating, end stage disease. There is pain, nausea, diarrhea, and skin eruptions to name a few. It is not a disease we can ignore and it is not going away.
The birth of a baby should be a happy experience. In some countries, however, it brings new worries and problems. What if the baby is ill? How do we keep the baby warm? How do we feed another mouth? When the newborn arrives it may be with the assistance of the local midwife - if there is one in the area, and if the family will accept her assistance.
Commercial bandages are often expensive and in short supply, so rolled bandages, or "missionary bandages", are needed in many countries. Suitable materials are used bed sheets, white only, cotton or cotton blend. A great service project for youth and adults!
Baby Blankets are a welcomed gift to a new mother and child, and are often requested by our partners overseas as an incentive for supervised delivery at the hospitals or health centres. The blankets can be made from cotton or acrylic yarn (no wool). Light colored baby yarn is nice but other types can be used as well. The size should be approximately 30 x 30 inches.
Global Health Ministries is excited to annouce a new project for support. First Aid Kits! The kits are produced at the GHM warehouse by our volunteers and filled with much needed first aid supplies drawn from what is donated from local hospitals and medical distributors.
