"Partnerships in Sustainable Practice: Striving for Excellence"

Global Health Ministries’ annual Fall conference will be held this year at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, Minnesota on Saturday, October 10, 2009.  The Conference theme, “Partnerships in Sustainable Practice: Striving for Excellence,” will be explored through a plenary Keynote address, followed by four topical workshops.  Our Keynote speaker, Dr. Daniel Salpou, is the innovative Director of OSEELC, the health department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon, supervising 3 general hospitals and 17 health centers.  During Dr. Salpou’s tenure, he has inspired the respect of hospital colleagues and staff, government health authorities, and many international collaborators.  It has become apparent that Dr. Salpou is showing us ways in which Christian mission hospitals can survive and thrive.  He is developing models that offer hope to sustain and enhance healing ministry, where elsewhere mission hospitals are struggling and closing.

Of the many things that help assure the survival of Christian health mission, we are learning that none is more important than leadership. The compassion, creativity and leadership capacities of Dr. Daniel Salpou have been apparent from the start of his career.  He is known as “a visionary  who can look at the big picture,” and a man who has “demonstrated that he can make things happen, a gentle yet forceful personality who inspires trust.”  We hope that you will look forward to the opportunity to learn from Dr. Daniel Salpou, and to honor him for keeping the light of Jesus’ healing mission burning bright, as he addresses:

  1. the importance of mission partnerships, done right
  2. strategies for sustainability in a competitive and pluralistic world
  3. the dynamic intersection of community needs with the pursuit of excellence
  4. new approaches to mission hospital governance
